Red Sand Project is an artwork that uses participatory sidewalk interventions to raise awareness of the vulnerabilities that lead to human trafficking. The Contra Costa Human Trafficking Coalition, in collaboration with Counsilmember Monica Wilson, Chief Tammany Brooks, City Manager Rob Bernal and city staff, incites the Antioch community to take the time to fill the sidewalk cracks with red sand and document their sidewalk transformations on social media using #RedSandProject.
Through this project and the community’s support, we can bring awareness to human trafficking in Antioch.
PARTICIPATE: Free toolkits will be distributed to the public by the Coalition in front of the Community Center beginning at 4PM.
LEARN: A free training, Human Trafficking 101, will take place at the Community Center from 6:00PM-8:00PM for those who would like to take a more in depth look at this issue.
After you grab some food at the food trucks and spread some red sand in a few sidewalk cracks to raise awareness about trafficking, join us for a short Human Trafficking 101 training. Come to this training to learn about sex trafficking, the commercial sexual exploitation of youth and labor trafficking. Our Human Trafficking 101 course is a general overview of trafficking dynamics and resouces.
